Fermented vegetables do not only look good, they even taste amazing. To start our fermentation series with fermented veggies, we decided to start with a delicious fermented tomatoes recipe.
It is super easy to start fermentation and it is a lot of fun! A sweet and sour taste experience is waiting for you! Try it yourself!
For this easy fermented tomatoes recipe you need those ingredients
- 700ml-glass with lit*, fermentation Air Lock* and glass weights* – our special fermentation set waits here* for you
- 450g cherry tomatoes
- 3 garlic gloves
- 1 Tbsp mustard seeds
- 10 peppercorns
- 2 leaves of basil
- 500ml water
- 10g salt
Do you have everything? This is how to make your fermented tomatoes recipe yourself!
- Wash tomatoes
- Boil water and dissolve the salt inside. Keep the mixture hot
- Peel garlic and cut into small pieces
- Hack basil leaves
- Put all ingredients inside the glass and put tomatoes on top
- Fill the salty water on top until all tomatoes are covered.
- If you use our fermentation set, you put the glass weights on top first to keep the tomatoes under water
- Now, close the glass carefully
- The tomatoes need 4-5 days to ferment on room temperature. Now you can eat them or let them ferment another 3 weeks. It is important to store the tomatoes cool after 4-5 days of fermenting. After 1-2 weeks the tomatoes get soft and have the perfect consistency for soups or sauces
