    Kefir cucumber soup – a summerlike refreshing kefir recipe

    Yippie! Finally summer is here! Hot days are lying ahead and my body needs lots of fluid. As is generally known, we need to drink at least 1.5 to 2 liters a day. Mineral water, sugar-free juices and tea are the best fluid providers. There are several fruits and vegetables that possess high fluid content, such as watermelon, tomatoes or cucumbers. Especially in summer I love to eat fresh and crunchy cucumbers which are composed of nearly 95% water. Although this longish vegetable seems rather insignificant there are quite a lot of interesting information about it.

    Did you know, that the cucumber’s origin is in India and that it belongs to the family of pumpkins? Even more exciting is the fact that from a botanical point of view the fruit of the cucumber plant is a berry.

    From India the cucumber travelled all over the world. Nowadays it is a popular vegetable in many different regions on the planet. In Germany alone there are various designations. In some regions it is called Gommern, Korcken, Ruun, Umurke, Cucumern or Gukumer. Did you notice that the last two names are very similar to the English one? Funny isn’t it? Continue Reading…
