Chocolate.. 😊 Nearly everyone of you knows and loves its sweet and unforgettable taste.

But since when do we know chocolate in Europe?

The plant and its cocoa beans were developed by the Olmeken 1500 BC. The Mayas started growing their own cocoa plant 600 AD. For them this plant was holy and they even had an cocoa god for whom they had a festival every year in April. They used the seeds of the plant to make a drink that was only dinkable for man and headman oft he clan. The cocoa drink was too intoxicating for women and children they believed. But they also used the cocoa beans as an popular payment method.

The first cocabeans came to Europe by Christoph Columbus  but no one knew how to prepare any food or drink with it. They were too bitter and were declared as inedible.

Only 1528 with Herman Cortes who braught the beans back to Europe, they were able to prepare a drink wih cocoa, honey and cane sugar. But since 1800 that special drink was only available for the nobillity. The first chocolate factory was found 1819 in Switzerland and the first milk chocolate factory was etablished in Dresden, Germany 1823. 1900 was the time were the first Chocolaterias opened and anyone was able to buy their first chocolate bars.

After so may dates and talking about chocolate, we now start with our sweet milk kefir chocolate recipe.
